Why did we start a YouTube Channel?

Are we crazy? Maybe! But we have officially joined the other crazy million+ vloggers on the internet haha.
Tyler and I started a YouTube channel for HB farms. I never thought my quiet hubby would suggest us starting a YouTube channel but here we are haha. In this post I will share why we started on the YouTube journey and what we have learned so far.

First it started with a general curiosity. Tyler and I love watching farming YouTube videos. We find it both educational and entertaining. We have a few favorites like Sonne Farms, Discover Ag, Ballerina Farms, and How Farms Work. We soon found ourselves saying, "we could totally do this." Tyler started researching how to get started and soon it became something we chatted about on the regular.
Honestly we were scared that we wouldn't have enough content to be consistent but I think as long as you stick with it and find you niche, it can be done. Our farm is little and we don't farm full time but there is always something to document.
I gave up social media for lent and some people might be curious as to why we want to start YouTube if we are trying to be more strategic with our time on social media but I think that is why YouTube is the perfect solution. We can post more consistently with YouTube but not be consumed by social media on the daily. The long form content helps us to share our whole story without posting on stories constantly. I think it also allows us the freedom to be more authentic. We can share the daily triumphs and struggles in real time. Social media is such a highlight reel but YouTube brings you along for the day to day action.
We hope to start building our direct to consumer beef business and we want people to know how their beef is being raised. Customers can connect with us through our farming videos and then in return purchase high quality beef and know exactly how it was raised.
Our channel will focus on how our family of two generations is reviving a century old Iowa cow/calf farm that was started four generations ago. Tyler and I will take you along the journey of making our dream into reality.
We currently have have videos posted and we will upload a new one every Friday. You can expect to see vlogs, day in the life videos, flower tutorials and cow/calf operations.
Here are our thoughts so far:
It is easy to start a channel but not easy to get subscribers
Phone storage is a challenge when uploading long form content
We invested in a tripod right away but we plan to use our phones for a while but we hope to get a gopro sometime.
The quality is not always the same when watching on phone and tv.
The description and title need to be engaging
Don't make cheesy titles. Our Hay O'Clock video is not reaching a lot of people haha.
It has been fun! Especially to have a new hobby with my hubby.
It can be challenging to film with the kids but it is reality that the kids are with us for farm chores.
I say um a lot but I hope that improves
Editing takes time
Be sure to go watch one of our recent videos and please subscribe and share! It would be the world to us!
