Springtime Joy

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” — Margaret Atwood

The quote rings true! The ground might be muddy and the trees are still bare but this is the time of year when buds appear and the smell of fresh air brings me so much joy! This week I planted snapdragon, statice and celosia seeds. We sow about half of our seeds indoors and direct seed the rest.

To start seeds indoors, we use a combination of seed starting soil and just a normal potting soil. We cover the seeds with a light dusting of vermiculite, this prevents algae from growing.

Our indoor seeds germinate with the help of heat mats and bottom watering. So far things are looking great. My plan is to sow zinnias, marigolds, and ornamental basil this week. Some seeds take longer to germinate and therefore do well with starting indoors.

Our goal is to prep the garden here in the next few weeks. We need to till in the manure compost we made, lay down weed fabric, and set up drip irrigation. Ah I can't wait for summer blooms.

A BRIEF UPDATE ON WHAT IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING:

Dean is 4 months old! I don't know where the time is going haha but it seems to be flying by! This weekend we tried baby cereal for the first time. He wasn't sure what to think, but it is so fun to watch him try it. Seeing the world through Dean's eyes has been so special!

I enjoyed a much needed girls day on Saturday with my besties! We went to Fireside Winery and 30 Hop. It was so nice to catch up while we sat in the sunshine with a glass of wine.

We moved the (new to us) flower cooler into the garage and plugged it in! I need to clean it but so far it seems to be running great! Praying it continues to work well. It is going to be a game changer!

We plan to use the cooler to help keep our cut flowers fresh! Did you know we offer arrangements by request? Inquire for your special occasion; anniversary, birthday, holiday, event, etc.

This weekend; Dad, Tyler, Megan and Kyle administered vaccinations to prevent scours. Dean and I were there as moral support. Stopping by about half way through to say hello haha. Our cows will be calving soon and with the changing weather the calves can get sick with scours (Diarrhea), the vaccine helps prevent illness.
