Have you heard of a social media vacation? Sounds festive!

I am part of the last generation to remember life before social media, a simpler time! Saying that makes me think of the song by Rascal Flats: Mayberry! "Sittin' on the porch drinkin' ice cold cherry coke, where everything is black and white." haha! But really you guys... remember life before social media? I remember prank calling friends, sharing one computer with everyone in the house, reading the comic section in the newspaper... man oh man I loved the Sunday comic strip!

Social media isn't bad, it is actually a really awesome tool! I first began sharing the story of agriculture back in college. I started my first blog in 2015 and Facebook is where I documented what was happening on the farm.

Facebook is now how I promote flower offerings, it is how I share information at work about our Ag in the Classroom program. Social media is how I stay in touch with people we don't see all the time. Facebook groups are how I stay accountable with my fitness and workout programs. All good things!

Platforms like Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram are tools I use to market Farmhouse Flowers. How do you promote a business otherwise today? It is kind of scary to think about how much we rely on social media- not only for business promotion, but it is a photo gallery too. What is crazy is that many platforms are owed by the same company and they control all the algorithms and power. Everything could be gone in one day!

This has me thinking! I want a little more control over my content and marketing strategies. I am trying hard to build a newsletter list. A place where I can put my effort and control the narrative. If you haven't signed up, I encourage you to do so by visiting our website. What is ironic, is that I plan to publish this blog on Facebook. Haha...funny I know! But that is how we currently connect. Social media will continue to be a tool in my tool box, but I plan to approach it a bit differently. I plan to take a little social media break over the Christmas season. I am excited to unplug and be present with family. After the New Year, I hope I have gained a new sense of control over my social media usage- checking in to connect with family and friends, and using it as a way to share my story, but hoping by taking a break; I will have control on the urge to scroll. I am looking forward to this much needed break!

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for taking the time to read! I am now logging off until 2022!
